Al Budris

Al Budris is a 33 year bicycle industry veteran, having spent his entire adult life learning the industry from the bottom up as a competitor, retailer, professional mechanic, product manager, brand manager, marketing executive, business development executive, controller and President at various companies. Al established Alpha Sports Associates in 2006, with a goal of providing maximum value for his clients by helping them create long-term, mutually beneficial relationships, sustainable competitive advantage and successful go-to market strategies. Al has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Golden Gate University and a Master’s of Business Administration from San Jose State University. When not lecturing, Al is always pursuing new business and he is a board member for the Ventana Wilderness Alliance. Al enjoys hiking, trail running and cooking, and in between various restoration projects on old Volkswagens and Alfa Romeos, Al was a nationally-ranked cyclocrosser “in his day” and now just rides for the sheer love of it.

Brigid McGrath-Massey

Brigid McGrath Massie is an award-winning business consultant, author and professional speaker. She has taught customer service in 141 shopping centers throughout the United States and Mexico; She has facilitated Strategic Planning Retreats for Board of Directors as diverse at the Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association to the Monterey Bay Derby Dames Roller Hockey Team; additionally, she is the co-developer of the Leadership Salinas Valley program, a nationally recognized leadership development experience. Brigid has earned Master’s degrees in Social Work and Business Administration and holds several life- time teaching credentials.

Brooks McChesney

Adjunct Faculty at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey

Brooks McChesney has been an entrepreneur and senior executive in technology companies spanning multiple vertical markets and industries.  Before retiring to Carmel Valley, he served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Intel and previously as the President & CEO of Vidient Systems, a Company he founded and whose core technology he successfully spun out of NEC’s Multimedia Research Lab, which produces intelligent video surveillance software used to secure critical infrastructure both civilian and military, transportation hubs and other sensitive facilities worldwide. Currently he consults with a variety of venture funds and start-up companies, providing management and consulting services, helping them secure funding and develop successful sales and marketing strategies.  He is a member of the Naval Postgraduate Foundation in Monterey, CA; a member of the Advisory Board of the California CleanTech Initiative and the Start-Up Challenge Business Plan Competition (CSUMB); a member of the Stanford Alumni Consulting Team; and is President of the Board of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA.

Catherine Hambley

As a consulting psychologist and Principal of LeapFrog Consulting, Catherine translates relevant neuroscience into practical applications in the areas of leadership development, executive coaching, organizational culture, navigating change, strategic planning, and building successful, high performing teams. Catherine has worked across a broad set of industries and organizations, from start-up to Fortune 100 companies. Catherine is adjunct faculty for an International MBA program where she teaches an experiential leadership course and is on the teaching staff at California State University, Monterey Bay’s Extended Education Program (offering leadership development programs).

David Apgar

Founder of GoalScreen

David Apgar founded GoalScreen, a coaching service and SaaS that help unique businesses systematically find new ways to increase sales, save time and money, or expand social impact. GoalScreen packages his 12 years of strategy and performance-management experience as a CEB (now Gartner) managing director and McKinsey engagement manager in a lean-experimentation platform for small businesses. He also spent 12 years managing a small-business fund in Haiti for the Inter-American Investment Corporation, running the credit committee of Geneva-based microfinance fund BlueOrchard, leading several small-business access-to- credit initiatives as a senior US Treasury advisor, and leading numerous financial-institution mergers as an investment banker. He wrote two books that argue the purpose of accountability is always learning, whether in risk management (Risk Intelligence, Harvard Business Publishing 2006) or performance management (Relevance, Wiley 2008). And his recent paper “The False Promise of Big Data” (Systems Research and Behavioral Science 2015) argues complexity requires creativity as well as data. David has a PhD in Policy Analysis from the Pardee Rand Graduate School, an MA in Physics and Philosophy from Oxford, and a BA in History and Literature from Harvard.

Patrick Reilly

Patrick Reilly, Esq.  is an intellectual property (“IP”) consultant with the TECH FUTURES GROUP, the founder of Intellectual Property Society, and a practicing IP attorney.  His law practice encompasses patent prosecution, creative rights management, IP issues of start-up formation, trademark prosecution and assertion, copyright protection and assertion, and trade secret policy.  Patrick has a special commitment to encourage civic engagement with the evolution of intellectual property law, personal data rights and Internet identity. He is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Russian Language Studies, and has earned a BS in Sociology from the State University of New York, a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toledo and a JD from Concord Law School. Rick Thau

Rick Thau is a consultant/mentor/advisor, and investor in early stage companies. He is currently (since 1999) Managing Director of The Thaught Process; a consulting firm providing “C” level executive support and coaching for early stage companies. He has served as a Venture Partner in a multi-billion dollar fund, Board Member, and Executive Chairman for several companies. From 1990 to 1999, Mr. Thau was CEO and a founder of FullTime Software (formerly Qualix Group Nasdaq: FTSW) the market-leading provider of Reliability and Availability software. Mr. Thau holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences from Stony Brook University, and has attended the MBA program at Santa Clara University.
